Puffer Jacket Project

This project looks at the puffer jacket and question how it could reimagined in a more fun, sustainable way. I came up with three different proposals to trial. Proposal #1 explored various ways of partial detachment and reattachment, mainly in sleeves. Proposal #2 explored possible alternative fillers that could be used inside of puffer jackets and coats instead of polyfill. Proposal #3 introduces the idea of a convertible puffer coat that could be flipped up to shorten the jacket length, as well as create a 360 degree pocket around the jacket. I focused on the last two proposals to develop the physical prototype.

I ended up using my mother’s old bed comforter to fill my coat. It would have been thrown into landfill to rot, but after a quick trip in the wash, it is now a very warm coat!
